Foundations are like bras—”the majority of people have the wrong one.” That’s what makeup artist Holly Gowers said. Just like matching the clothes from up to bottom on our body, unless we can find the right one, our skin and the base will give us a cakey or different face color no matter which big brands we use.
Every woman wants an amazing-looking, clear skin even if we don’t have it. Makeup artist Bob Scott, who works with celebs like Bella Hadid and Chrissy Teigen, reveals the trick to acing your base. First, he recommends figuring out what undertone your skin has by looking at the veins on the underside of your wrists.
If they’re mostly blue or purple, you have cool undertones; if they’re more of a greenish yellow, you have warm undertones; and if your veins look like a mix of green, blue, yellow, and purple, your undertones are neutral.
Now that you’ve determined your skin’s undertone, we will keep go to the next step of choosing the foundation that works for you best. We will simply suggest you to choose the pinkish foundation (that subtly appears on the bottle) for the cool undertone, yellow or peach color foundation will go with warm undertone and yellowish foundation compliments the shades of neutral tone.
We must caution you: Using a foundation categorized as your respective “cool” or “warm” skin tone may not always be the most flattering choice. Still, you have some hints and these tips will help you to get the right one when you shop next time.
But we’re questioning one widely accepted makeup practice that many of us have been led to believe is good. The back of your hand and inner wrist are not the best places to test whether a foundation is a color match for your skin; it’s actually your neck or jawline. Match the foundation to the skin on your neck, rather than your wrist or hand. Just keep in mind, you want your complexion to appear amazing, not your foundation.
Test three swatches of the foundation you think best suit you for comparison on your jawline, and go with the closest match that appears to disappear into the skin. Remember, foundation shouldn’t show on your skin –
Don’t feel rushed into buying a foundation – it will never be the same under the store’s warm light or under the light you will always be. It’s never a good decision to buy a costly foundation which doesn’t work on you and what the most matters is you should have felt beautiful with this foundation, shouldn’t you?
