A 1965 Shelby GT350R prototype was recently sold at auction for $3.85 million, making it the world’s most expensive Ford Mustang. The car was driven by Ken Miles and designed by Carroll Shelby, was one of the first muscle cars to be built exclusively for competition and as a prototype. The car then spent a number of years in the Shelby American Museum before being sold numerous times over the years. In 2010, it was purchased by an antique dealer named John Atzbach, who spent four year restoring it before putting it up for auction this year. The previous record was held by the 1968 Ford Mustang GT from the Steve McQueen film “Bullitt”, which sold for $3.7 million in January 2020.
