Apple has announced that it is partnering with automakers to launch a digital key system that will be included in the next iOS update. The system will allow users to unlock and start their cars using just their iPhones using NFC technology. Users will need to tap the car with the iPhone and place the phone in the charging tray to start the car.
Apple also highlighted the keys security features, such as the ability to disable keys for other drivers and revoking vehicle access in case of stolen or missing phones. Apple announced that the 2021 BMW 5-series will be the first vehicle to support this feature, with other cars hopefully joining the lineup in 2021.
