What are the most popular fashion brands in Myanmar?

ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံမွာ ေရပန္းအစားဆံုး Fashion brands က ဘာျဖစ္မလဲ။

No, the question itself is too broad. Let’s narrow down only to Yangon. This is the question that even this LUSH writer struggles. I asked my friend what she is wearing today.

ဟင့္အင္း… ေမးခြန္းက အရမ္းက်ယ္ျပန္႔လြန္းတယ္။ ရန္ကုန္ရဲ႕ ေရပန္းအစားဆံုးလို႔ပဲ အက်ဥ္းခ်ံဳးၾကည့္ရေအာင္။ ဒီ ေမးခြန္းက ကၽြန္မတို႔ေတြေတာင္မွ ေခါင္းစားရပါတယ္။ ကၽြန္မသူငယ္ခ်င္းကုိလည္း သူဒီေန႔ဘာဝတ္ထားလဲဆုိျပီး ေမးၾကည့္ခဲ့ပါေသးတယ္။

She replied, “ZARA top and H&M jeans”. We do not have ZARA or H&M stores in the country. Yet you will see many girls and guys wearing these High Street Brands. This is because Myanmar being the technology leapfrog nation, the online shops are easily accessible with competitive prices and have more variety of choices than the brick and mortar stores. It seems like most of us from the I.T age, shop at physical stores only when it is urgent. 

သူက ZARA အက်ႌ နဲ႔ H&M ဂ်င္းေဘာင္းဘီဝတ္ထားတာလို႔ ေျပာပါတယ္။ ကၽြန္မတို႔ ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံမွာ ZARA တို႔ H&M တို႔ရဲ႕ဆုိင္ေတြ မရွိေသးေပမယ့္ ေကာင္မေလးေတြ၊ ေကာင္ေလးေတြေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားမ်ား ဒီ High Street brands ေတြကုိ ဝတ္ေနၾကတာ စာဖတ္သူတို႔လည္း သတိထားမိမွာပါ။ ဒါဟာ ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံက နည္းပညာပုိင္းကုိ အမွီလုိက္ေနတဲ့အတြက္ေၾကာင့္ Online Shops ေတြဟာ သူ႔ထက္ငါ အျပိဳင္အဆုိင္ေစ်းႏႈန္းေတြနဲ႔ ဝင္ေရာက္လာၾကျပီး အေျခစုိက္ဆုိင္ေတြထက္ ပိုျပီး ေရြးခ်ယ္စရာမ်ားတာကိုေတြ႔ရပါတယ္။ ကၽြန္မတို႔ Internet မ်ိဳးဆက္ေတြ ေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားမ်ားက အျမန္လုိအပ္မွသာ အေရာင္းဆုိင္ေတြကုိသြားဝယ္ျဖစ္ပါေတာ့တယ္။ 

A friend of mine called me frantically saying she needed a nice dress for an afternoon brunch. Since we did not have time to order online anymore, it forced us to think and we rushed off to MDS Myanmar. It is a trusty place for lovely dresses. Where would you run to when you need Myanmar dresses for traditional or religious ceremonies? Tawwin Plaza is still the go-to. However, we have go to the seamstresses and designers for big events. There seems to be a gap that has yet to be filled in for the fashion shopaholics in the fashion shops. It is hard to tell what are the popular brands in Myanmar because some of them are chosen due to lack of choice rather than actually like.

ကၽြန္မသူငယ္ခ်င္းတစ္ေယာက္ဆုိ သူေန႔လည္စာသြားစားဖို႔ရွိလုိ႔ Dress ေကာင္းေကာင္းေလးတစ္ထည္ေလာက္လုိတယ္ဆုိျပီး အနီးကပ္မွလာေျပာပါတယ္။ အဲ့တုန္းက ကၽြန္မတို႔ Online ကေန order မွာဖို႔အခ်ိန္လည္း ရွိမွမရွိေတာ့တာ။ ဒါနဲ႔ ကၽြန္မတို႔ ဘယ္သြားဝယ္ရမလဲ အၾကပ္ရုိက္ေနရင္း MDS Myanmar ဆုိင္ကုိပဲ ကမန္းကတန္းသြားျဖစ္ၾကတယ္။ ဆုိင္မွာ ခ်စ္စရာေကာင္းတဲ့ dress ေလးေတြ အမ်ားၾကီးရွိတာေတာ့အမွန္ပါပဲ။ ျမန္မာ့ရုိးရာ အလွဴပြဲေတြ၊ မဂၤလာပြဲေတြစတာတို႔ သြားတဲ့အခါမွာ ျမန္မာအက်ႌဝယ္ဖို႔လိုတယ္ဆုိရင္ေရာ စာဖတ္သူအေနနဲ႔ဘယ္ကိုသြားမလဲ။ ေတာ္ဝင္ပလာဇာကေတာ့ အသြားသင့္ဆံုးေနရာတစ္ခုအျဖစ္ရွိေနဆဲပါ။ ဘယ္လုိပဲျဖစ္ျဖစ္ ပြဲႀကီးႀကီးေတြသြားရမယ္ဆုိရင္ေတာ့ ကၽြန္မတို႔ အက်ႌခ်ဳပ္ဆိုင္တို႔ ဒီဇုိင္နာတို႔ဆီသြားရတုန္းပါ။ ဒါဟာ Fashion ဆုိင္ေတြမွာ ေစ်းဝယ္ထြက္ရတာေပ်ာ္ေမြ႔တဲ့သူေတြအတြက္ လိုအပ္ေနေသးတဲ့ ကြက္လပ္ေလးတစ္ခုလို႔ ျမင္မိပါတယ္။  တံဆိပ္ေတြက ေရြးခ်ယ္ရတာ သိပ္မ်ားမ်ားစားစားမရွိေသးေတာ့ တစ္ခ်ိဳ႕တံဆိပ္ေတြက တကယ္ႀကိဳက္တာထက္ ေရြးခ်ယ္စရာနည္းလို႔ သင့္ေတာ္တာေရြးခ်ယ္ထားတာမ်ိဳးျဖစ္တတ္လို႔  ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံမွာ ေရပန္းစားတဲ့တံဆိပ္ေတြက ဘာေတြလဲဆုိျပီးေျပာဖို႔ကေတာ့ခက္ပါေသးတယ္။

The fashion retail sector in Myanmar has changed significantly. Twenty years back, the hippest shopping center in town had GIODARNO and SODA brands on the ground floor. Now we walk past Hugo Boss, Armani, Versus Versace in Yangon shopping mall. However, shopping in Myanmar still feels rather selected and restricted. If you ever have a shopping center in town that makes you carrying big shopping bags with excited thrill like shopping in (for example) Bangkok, do let us know.

ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံက Fashion အေရာင္းပုိင္းအေနနဲ႔ကေတာ့ သိသိသာသာေျပာင္းလဲလာပါျပီ။ လြန္ခဲ့တဲ့ ႏွစ္ ၂၀ ေလာက္တုန္းကဆုိ ျမိဳ႕ထဲမွာ ေခတ္အစားဆံုး ေစ်းဝယ္စင္တာမွာဆုိ GIODRANO နဲ႔ SODA တံဆိပ္တုိ႔က ေျမညီထပ္မွာေနရာယူထားပါတယ္။ အခုဆုိရင္ေတာ့ Hugo Boss, Armani, Versus Versace စတာေတြကို ကၽြန္မတို႔ ရန္ကုန္ျမိဳ႕က ေစ်းဝယ္စင္တာေတြထဲ ျဖတ္သြားတုိင္းျမင္ေတြ႔ႏုိင္ပါျပီ။ ဒါေပမယ့္ ဒီေန႔ထိကုိ ျမန္မာႏုိင္ငံမွာ ေစ်းဝယ္ထြက္ရတာက ေရြးခ်ယ္ရနည္းျပီး ကန္႔သတ္ခ်က္ရွိေနေသးသလုိ ခံစားေနရတုန္းပါ။ အကယ္လို႔မ်ား စာဖတ္သူအေနနဲ႔ ဒီမွာေစ်းဝယ္ထြက္ရတာက ဘန္ေကာက္မွာ ေစ်းဝယ္ထြက္ရသလိုမ်ိဳး အိတ္အမ်ားၾကီးတနင့္တပုိးသယ္ျပီး စိတ္လႈပ္ရွားစရာေကာင္းတာမ်ိဳးျဖစ္ေစတဲ့ ေစ်းဝယ္စင္တာမ်ိဳးရွိခဲ့ရင္ ကၽြန္မတို႔ကို ေျပာျပေပးပါဦး။

From LUSH’s perspective, traditional retail shops are already facing steep competition from online retail all over the world. For Myanmar, we missed out on the golden days of big department stores and big shopping malls so we still enjoy shopping in physical stores. However, the lack of choices and sometimes poor sale services are some of the reasons why we rather browse and order clothes online. So if you are a fashion retailer looking to enter Myanmar market, you still can become a popular brand because the needs are yet to be fulfilled.

LUSH perspective ကေနျပီး တစ္ကမာၻလံုးမွာ သမာရုိးက်အေရာင္းဆုိင္ေတြက  Online အေရာင္းဆုိင္ေတြကုိ ခက္ခဲတဲ့ယွဥ္ျပိဳင္မႈေတြနဲ႔ ရင္ဆုိင္ေနရတယ္လို႔ ျမင္မိပါတယ္။ ကၽြန္မတို႔ ျမန္မာမွာေတာ့ ကုန္စံုဆုိင္အႀကီးႀကီးေတြနဲ႔ ေစ်းဝယ္စင္တာအႀကီးႀကီးေတြရဲ႕ ေတာက္ပခဲ့တဲ့ေခတ္ကုိ မမီလုိက္ရေတာ့ အေရာင္းဆုိင္ေလးေတြမွာ ေစ်းဝယ္ရတာကုိ သေဘာက်ေနတုန္းပါပဲ။ ဘာပဲျဖစ္ျဖစ္ ေရြးခ်ယ္စရာနည္းပါးျပီး တစ္ခါတေလ အေရာင္းပုိင္း ဆက္ဆံေရးညံ့တာမ်ိဳးနဲ႔လည္း ၾကံဳရေတာ့ ကၽြန္မတို႔ Online ကေနပဲရွာေဖြျပီး ဝယ္လုိက္တာေတာ္ေတာ္မ်ားလာပါတယ္။ ဒါေၾကာင့္ စာဖတ္သူဟာ ဖက္ရွင္လက္လီျဖန္႔ခ်ိသူျဖစ္ျပီး ျမန္မာ့ေစ်းကြက္ထဲကုိ ဝင္ေရာက္ခ်င္တယ္ဆုိရင္ေတာ့ ဒီမွာ ျဖည့္ဆည္းဖို႔ လိုအပ္တာေတြအမ်ားၾကီးရွိေနေသးတာျဖစ္လို႔ စာဖတ္သူဟာလည္း ေခတ္စားလာမယ့္ တံဆိပ္တစ္ခုျဖစ္လာႏုိင္ပါေသးတယ္။
