You may not know who or what ABBA is, but, for sure for those born in the 80s and 90s, it’s impossible growing up and not ever heard or danced to Dancing Queen or Mamma Mia! ABBA is the biggest ever pop-band of Sweden and one of the most popular groups in music history. With over 380 million albums and singles being sold worldwide, they were the first group from a non-English speaking country to have standing firm success in English speaking countries.
အဖြဲ႔နာမည္ကိုု အဖြဲ႔ဝင္ေတြျဖစ္တဲ့ Agnetha Fältskog (အမ်ိဳးသမီး)၊ Björn Ulvaeus (အမ်ိဳးသား)၊ Benny Andersson (အမ်ိဳးသား) နဲ့ Anni-Frid Lyngstad (အမ်ိဴးသမီး) တိုု႔ရဲ့ ေရွ့နာမည္အစအကၡရာေတြယူျပီး ေပးထားတာကလည္း သုူတိုု႔ရဲ့ထူးျခားမႈပါ။ ဒါ့ျပင္ သူတိုု႔ဟာ အဖြဲ႔ဝင္အခ်င္းခ်င္း အိမ္ေထာင္ျပဳလက္ထပ္ထားတဲ့ စံုုတြဲႏွစ္တြဲေပါင္းအဖြဲ႔လည္းျဖစ္ပါတယ္…ဒါေပမယ့္ ေနာက္ပိုုင္းမွာေတာ့ ႏွစ္တြဲစလံုုး အိမ္ေထာင္ေရးျပိဳကြဲသြားခဲ့ၾကျပီး ေဖ်ာ္ေျဖေရးစင္ျမင့္ေပၚကလည္း အနားယူလိုုက္ၾကေတာ့တယ္။ Benny နဲ့ Anni-Frid က ၁၉၇၈-၁၉၈၀ အထိေပါင္းသင္းခဲ့ျပီး Björn နဲ့ Agnetha တို့က ၁၉၇၁ မွာ လက္ထပ္ခဲ့ၾကပါတယ္။ ၁၉၇၄ ခုုႏွစ္ Eurovision ျပိဳင္ပြဲမွာ သူတိုု႔ရဲ့ေရပန္းစားလာမယ့္သီခ်င္း “Waterloo” ဆိုုတဲ့သီခ်င္းနဲ့ အႏိုုင္ရခဲ့ျပီး ေက်ာ္ၾကားမႈုရရွိခဲ့ေပမယ့္ အဖြဲ႔မျဖစ္တည္ခင္ကတည္းက တစ္ေယာက္ခ်င္းစီဟာ ဂီတလမ္းေၾကာင္းေပၚ ေရာက္ေနခဲ့ႏွင့္ျပီးျဖစ္ပါတယ္။
The band was named after the band members’ First initials – Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. They were two married couples but, later ended in collapse of both marriages and officially took a break from the public stage. Benny and Anni-Frid were married between 1978 and 1980, as were Bjorn and Agnetha married in 1971. Although they gained their popularity with their hit song “Waterloo” in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 and won, each of them had already had their career going on in the industry before they formed the group.

ABBA remain huge in practically every turn of the world, even in countries where most other western rock and pop music could not penetrate. The United States was considered ABBA’s floppiest market during their active days, but that isn’t true anymore they are today more popular than ever before in the States, with the ABBA Gold album being now sold more than six million copies. They had the largest fan base in Australia where their popularity matches even that of the Beatles there.

Their collection album Gold: Greatest Hits, which was released in 1992, has become one of the most popular albums worldwide and it is the UK’s second best-selling album of all time. Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You and Super Trouper are their best selling singles. They occupied the UK Number Ones nine times after Elvis Presley and The Beatles during 70s and 80s. ABBA claimed to have the influence in their music by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Bee Gees.

It’s not only their music that they are famous for, but their outrageous wacky costumes were also prominent 70s styles throughout their career….all those Sparkling fabric, spangly flares, catsuits and platform heels even tinfoil, literally anything they can dig in the piles of costumes. However, ABBA’s flamboyant stage-wear owned something to Sweden tax’s law which allowed the deductions for clothing if it could not be worn daily out on the street, so, the band could claim the cost of outfits to be deducted against tax. Bjorn said in an interview, “In my honest opinion, we looked like nuts in those years. Nobody can have been as badly dressed on stage as we were. But we figured people would remember us even if we finished ninth.”

Anyway though their fashion styles don’t live out till today, their music has certainly stood the test of time. They were the legends in their own time and still their legacy is hanging around. Music of ABBA will stay in hearts of listeners for a long time.
